Volunteers Modify Toy Ride-on Cars For Kids With Disabilities
Jun 28, 2016

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A lot of kids with physical disabilities will never experience the thrill of driving a motorized car.

The national program Go Baby Go gives them that experience, and Saturday six kids in the Valley got to take part in a special event at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

OH WOW! funded motorized cars that were taken apart by family members and volunteers, each suited specially for each child’s needs.

After the cars were built, the fun began; a driving range filled with obstacles was set up.

“It’s also great cognitive development because instead of just sitting there and not being able to move, now they can move, they can hit a switch, they can go across the room. They start to learn that there’s cause and effect and ways for them to play, said Bev Lankitus, one of the volunteers.

This was the first year the program was held at MCCTC, but Lankitus said they’re looking into holding the event again soon.
